ENVIRONMENT

  • What are some of the top environmental concerns in Windsor that we need to address as youth?
  • What can youth do to solve/address these concerns?

The City of Windsor recently announced its Environmental Master Plan. Think of ways on how youth can support this plan and put it into action. [CLICK HERE FOR WEBSITE]

YOUTH TOWN HALL INPUT:

The following are items were brought forward at the Youth Town Hall event held at Devonshire Mall on August 24th, 2006.

  • Awareness needs to be incorporated more into the schools to teach children at a young age
  • Not many people reach out to the opportunities that already exist
  • Teens are misusing recycling bins therefore they are being removed – more awareness to teach them why it is important to RRR.
  • Team up with organizations
  • Lobby governments for more stringent controls on pollution
  • Getting grade schools and high schools on board with composting and garbage less lunch campaigns
  • Work the city’s new Environmental Master Plan and turn those plans into action
  • Air pollution from US is polluting Windsor – More needs to be done on the US Side.

General Consensus: Youth need to be more aware of the environmental issues at hand. Schools need to be leaders in teaching students about the environment and how keeping it clean benefits us all. Campaigning and lobbying governments as well as working with the City’s new Environmental Master Plan are just some of mentioned highlights.
