Forget about Freezing: Parks & Rec begins Pool Build - January 6, 2010 - Written By: Parks and Recreation
Central Pool, 3301 Woodland Ave. in South Windsor, has an excavator in the pool this morning demolishing the 40-year-old outdoor facility. With a temporary construction road accessing the facility, the demolition is expected to be completed by Monday, January 11. During December, a sanitary sewer was installed and connected to the pool.

The new outdoor leisure pool, costing $537,000, is scheduled to open in the summer 2010 with a full program of swimming lessons and recreation swims. Providing improved accessibility with a sloped beach entry and creative water play features, the pool represents the current thinking in aquatics.

Carri-Belle Murphy, Supervisor in Parks and Recreation, explains, “A leisure pool goes beyond the idea of fitness. It creates an entire recreational environment that combines play with swim lessons, exercise, socialization and relaxation.”

Central Pool and Riverside Centennial Pool are both scheduled for new looks with the replacement of the pool tanks this year. “We are very pleased to have funds from the City of Windsor’s capital budget to replace some of our aging recreational facilities,” explains Jan Wilson, Executive Director of Recreation.

Construction on Riverside Centennial Pool, 6695 Wyandotte. Dr. East. will begin shortly.
